Happy Friday!! Well, the rains are a-comin' down out here in California, and there's been thunder and lightning all day. If anyone is heading out into the storm, be safe. Please.
We've been hinting at for several weeks now about one of our many 2012 projects and now we are excited and proud to announce the theme of our collaborative art book. We thought that a project where we invited several friends and artists to participate with a broad creative theme would be a lot of fun. And we were right! We started out in 2010 with Monster Mythos, a book about folkloric monsters illustrated by 18 artists from the animation and illustration industries. We had such a great experience doing it that we decided to follow that up with last year's book Deus Libris, a book about Gods and Goddesses from myth/legend illustrated by 30 artists from all over the world. Well, this year's book is going to be.... Illustrated Legends of the American Old West! (That's not the final title but it'll be close to that.) And we couldn't be more excited!
This year's book includes lots of the new friends we've made via Facebook and Twitter over the last year from all around the globe. And will feature all our different styles and interpretations of such historical figures as Annie Oakley, Calamity Jane, Billy the Kid and lots more. There will also be illustrations depicting events like the California Gold Rush, The Showdown at the OK Corral, as well as Native American Ghost stories, Folk Heroes and the origin/meaning of the term 'Riding Shotgun' among them.
We have many returning artists from the last books including Justin Ridge, Sara Jerzykowski, Nate Funaro, TJ Collins, Kyle Smith, Adam Scarpitta and Dik Pose. We are being joined internationally by the extremely talented hands of Jez Tuya, Maxwell Oginni, Matthew Hill, Ben Risbeck, and Beth Sleven plus many, many more.
As we get closer to finishing the books and as more and more artwork rolls in to Tiki Machine, we will be posting it here. Our plan is to have the books debut once again at the San Diego Comic Con this summer. Y'all stay posted fer upcomin' special notices an' the like. We's'll be a-postin' much more 'an this as tha days an' weeks go on. Darn tootin'! Have a great weekend. Stay safe and dry and we'll see y'all back 'ere Monday.
We'd like to Tiki-thank Bob Harper, Jez Tuya, Justin Ridge, Ben Risbeck and Adam Scarpitta for letting us use their WIP sketches for the announcement post. Yee haw!!
